Announcements are one-way updates: "Departure moved to 8:00 AM", "Bring a water bottle tomorrow". They stay in a list on the trip's Announcements page and show on the trip home, so nobody has to scroll back through chat to find them.
Who can post
Organizers, co-organizers and chaperones can post. You can edit or delete your own announcements. Everyone on the trip can read them.
Post one
- Open Announcements on the website or in the app and start a new post.
- Add a Title and a Message.
- Choose any options (listed below).
- Tap Post announcement.
The options:
- Mark urgent: it jumps to the top, stands out in red, and its notification breaks through Focus and Do Not Disturb on iPhones.
- Pin to top: keeps it above posts that are not pinned.
- Also share with parents & guardians: see below. It is off by default.
Everyone on the trip who has the app and notifications on gets a push notification.
Sharing with parents
Parents and guardians are usually not members of the trip, so they do not see chat or ordinary announcements. When you turn on Also share with parents & guardians:
- The post shows on each family's page for their child's trip.
- Each linked parent or guardian gets it by email, plus a notification if they have the app.
- A parent with two children on the trip gets it once.
Parents can turn these emails off with Email me family announcements in their account settings. Replies to these emails are not read, and the email says so. Parents should contact you directly or through the app.
Draft trips and sharing later
Families hear nothing while a trip is still a draft. If you share a post with families after it went out, or before the trip was published, edit it and tick Also notify parents & guardians now. That emails and notifies families once. People on the trip are not notified again.
Saving other edits does not send a new notification, and an email that already went out cannot be recalled.
A note about school email
Some school districts hold mail from senders they do not know, without telling anyone. For something truly urgent, mark it urgent so it reaches phones, and do not rely on email alone.
