Notifications: turn them on and fix them

How trip notifications work on iPhone, Android and the website, which kinds you can switch off, and what to check when they stop arriving.

Updated Oct 14, 2026

The Trip Binder sends notifications for chat messages, announcements, schedule changes, attendance updates from staff, meeting points and more. They arrive on your phone, and in some browsers on the website too. Everything also appears under the bell inside the app, so nothing is lost if a notification is missed.

iPhone

The app asks to send notifications after you sign in. Tap Allow. If you said no, open the iPhone Settings app › Notifications › The Trip Binder and turn on Allow Notifications.

Android

Android asks the first time you open the app. If you said no, open Settings › Apps › The Trip Binder › Notifications and turn them on. Notifications on Android need a recent version of the app, so update it from the Play Store if they never arrive.

Website

On the website, open Account settings › Notifications and choose Enable on this device next to Chat notifications. Your browser then asks for permission. Some browsers do not support this and say so.

Choose what you get (phone)

In the app, open the Account tab › App settings. Under notifications you will find:

  • Push notifications: the master switch.
  • Chat messages, Announcements, Trip updates (schedule changes, room or group assignments), Attendance & bus count, People & invites and Support replies.
  • Trip trackers on my Lock Screen: lets staff put an event countdown on your Lock Screen.
  • Email me family announcements: for parents. This one is email, so it works even with push turned off.

Not getting notifications?

Check these in order:

  1. You are signed in on that phone. Notifications go to the account signed in on the device.
  2. Notifications are allowed for The Trip Binder in the phone's settings.
  3. Push notifications and the kind you expect are on in App settings.
  4. You are a member of that trip. Parents are not trip members, so they get only announcements the organizer shared with families.
  5. The app is up to date.
  6. On iPhone, Focus or Do Not Disturb may be holding them. Urgent announcements break through; everything else waits.

If you signed in on a phone that someone else used before, sign out and back in. Each phone delivers to one account at a time.

When a message really must arrive

Mark announcements urgent for time-critical news. Families who have no app still get announcements you share with them by email. See Send announcements.
