Attendance and bus count-off

Field trip attendance and bus count-offs, from every chaperone's phone

Counting heads is the part of a school trip nobody can get wrong. The Trip Binder makes it fast: every chaperone marks students on their own phone, the count updates live for everyone, and one tap tells all staff exactly who is not accounted for.

One shared head count

A trip has one current checkpoint — "General attendance", "Lunch", "Back on the bus" — and every phone follows it. Chaperones mark the students in front of them and the totals fill in for everyone at once. Filter by group, by bus or by attendance group to see only the students you are responsible for.

  • Present-only marking for speed, or present and absent when you need a record
  • Students not traveling on a given day are left out of the count automatically
  • General attendance can clear itself after a quiet period, so the next stop starts fresh

Bus count-off

Each rider has a number on their bus. Start the count-off and tap each number as it is called. The screen shows who has not answered. The app times each pass and keeps the best time per bus, and a clean pass sets off a celebration you can customise.

Tell every adult who is missing — once

When a count finishes, "Notify staff" sends a single message to all staff: "All 41 accounted for" or "3 not accounted for", with the names. It is sent by a person, on purpose, so a five-student gap is one notification instead of six.

Works where the signal does not

Museums, stadium concourses and mountain roads are where you take attendance, and where phones lose service. Marks are saved on the phone and sync the moment a connection returns, without overwriting newer marks from someone else.

A record afterwards

Every checkpoint keeps who was marked, by whom and when, so there is an answer when someone asks who counted the bus at 3:40.

Common questions

Can several chaperones take attendance at the same time?
Yes. All chaperones mark on their own phones against the same live checkpoint, and everyone sees the count update as it happens.
Does field trip attendance work offline?
Yes. Attendance and count-offs work with no signal. Marks are stored on the phone and sync automatically when the connection comes back.
Is attendance free?
Yes. Attendance and bus count-offs are included on free day trips at any roster size. Overnight and multi-date trips need the Pro plan at $49.99 a year.
Are staff counted on the bus too?
Yes. Organizers and chaperones can be seated on a bus and given a count-off number alongside students and adult travelers, so the bus total is the number of people actually on it.

Try it on your next trip
